Lynne Curry, Ph D. SPHR

President of The Growth Company, Inc., Lynne Curry brings her clients a track record in management consulting; Board, manager and employee training; human resources and organizational strategy consulting.

Curry has provided more than 55,000 consulting projects to more than 3,700 organizations in Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, California, Connecticut, Arizona, Washington D.C., Illinois, New York, Arizona, Texas, Japan, Korea, China, Guam and England.

Training and facilitation

Curry provides dynamic, professional, results-oriented training sessions in more than 200 areas including: leadership; management and supervision; Board of Directors’ work; training, presentations, facilitation and mediation; coaching; marketing, sales and customer service; personal and professional development; memory; time and stress management; team-building; diversity; GenX/Y/Z; media; ethics; communications, conflict management and negotiation; motivation and change management. Curry has been awarded the Trainer of the Year award multiple times by the Anchorage chapter of the American Society of Training and Development.
Curry teaches facilitators and also provides facilitation, meeting management and team-building for a large variety of organizations.

Human resources

Curry and her team provide HR On-call (a la carte HR) services. These include HR trouble-shooting; 360 reviews; employee surveys; recruitment (hiring & reference checking); disciplinary and termination assistance; performance review & coaching assistance; legal aspects of management assistance and leadership development.

Legal and investigative work

Dr. Curry has testified at trial and served as an expert witness in legal cases involving sexual harassment, downsizing, management response, age and sex discrimination, wrongful discharge, overtime, grievance channels and many more issues.

Dr. Curry regularly provides neutral third party investigative services in the areas of sexual harassment, fraud, union/management relations, and other workplace issues. She has completed several hundred investigations.
Dr. Curry has provided multiple presentations to the Alaska Bar Association, the Alaska Academy of Trial Lawyers, the Alaska Association of Legal Administrators and more than twenty-five law firms.

Strategic planning, mediation and change management

Curry has provided over 30,000 strategic planning, change management, facilitations and mediations to clients in both public and private sector organizations.

Curry’s unique strategic planning process, Results, has produced solid, detailed strategic plans for organizations ranging in size from small professional service companies to large governmental agencies (including key groups with the U.S. Army and state organizations).

Curry teaches mediators and also provides mediation services to private sector clients (managers/employees, co-worker/co-worker) and attorneys with clients interested in settlement. She has successfully - from both parties standpoint - mediated more than 450 situations. Curry's mediation style has been described as professional, objective and impartial.

Executive and professional development coaching

Curry coaches CEOs, COOs, managers, supervisors, professionals, employees and individuals in a wide variety of industries.

Writing

Curry has authored four books, Managing Equally & Legally (McFarland & Company, 1990); Solutions; Won By One; A Supervisor's Desk Manual on Performance Appraisal.

Curry’s “Dear Abby of the Workplace” business column has been published since 1983 in the Anchorage Daily News, since 1999 in the Tri-city Herald (Washington) as well as in the Morris Daily Herald (Illinois), the Anchorage Times and the St. Petersburg Times (Florida).

Her articles have been featured in more than 100 publications including Entrepreneur, Yahoo!News, CBS MoneyWatch, and Supervision. Curry is a weekly columnist for HRC Suite.

Organizational strategy assistance

Curry provides client surveys; organizational audits, process improvement and organizational and marketing strategy.

Richard Birdsall, J.D., B.A.

Richard brings with him twenty years of trial experience representing the California Department of Transportation and its engineers; three years in the legal field of environmental remediation; nine years of criminal investigation experience; and, two years conducting investigations for the Alaska State Commission for Human Rights.

Birdsall brings TGC clients years of legal experience with special emphasis and training in legal compliance, risk assessment, settlements, mediation and alternative dispute resolution. He has served as a court appointed mediator in large litigation cases. He is particularly skillful and adept ferreting out troublesome HR problems and then finding creative ways to solve them.

Birdsall also brings considerable experience as a law instructor at the college and professional levels. He loves teaching with an interactive model promoting student participation and involvement using hypothetical fact patterns to make it fun, real and practical. This skill set offers TGC's clients cost effective team building, training and coaching.

Veronica Jackson, B.A.

Veronica Jackson serves as the Director of Marketing & Business Development for TGC. Her experience in communication, marketing, public relations, and business development has helped create a unique platform for her to provide TGC with a creative edge. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication from Texas A&M University. Veronica specializes in developing and managing TGC’s marketing efforts some of which include campaigns, social media presence, branding, and business development. She believes in the value of building relationships with clients to understand their needs and provide them with service excellence.

Veronica is a Texas native who has embarked on a new journey with her husband by moving to Alaska. She enjoys the beautiful views and cooler weather that Alaska has to offer. Veronica’s previous experience involved developing and growing business portfolios, performing market analysis and campaigns, and strategic public relations planning in which she served as an advocate for hospital pharmacies within the pharmaceutical health industry. Jennifer Yuhas

Jennifer Yuhas possesses an extensive background in executive coaching, negotiations, liaison work, team building, group processes, policy assessment, advocacy, communications, change management, crisis management, image consulting, speech coaching, capacity development, and strategic planning. 

She most recently served as the Negotiations Strategy Lead for the Pacific Salmon Treaty with the Alaska Delegation, and as the Joint Pacific Alaska Range Complex (JPARC) Airspace Planning Negotiations Lead for the Alaska Department of Fish & Game.

Yuhas served as a Chief of Staff to four Alaska Legislators, each having chaired the House Resources Committee. The State of Alaska solicited her to serve as the Legislative and Communications Director for the Alaska Department of Fish & Game. Here she conducted scoping, wrote policy, and developed procedures to address deficiencies within the department. During this time her crisis management skills were put to use following the tragic attack by wolves which resulted in death of a rural teacher attracting national media. She spent the next five years in the policy and regulatory arena leading a liaison team. She was awarded for her efforts to bridge relationship gaps on contentious resource and de-escalate conflict with positive results. Jennifer facilitated After Action Review meetings for things like Kuskokwim River fisheries low return years to promote shared knowledge and future process improvements. She worked closely with the Udall Foundation on high level issues such as Extraterritorial Jurisdiction petitions where she was recognized by the U.S. Forest Service for her collaborative efforts. Jennifer says the thing she missed most following her reassignment to international treaty issues was the perk of rural travel, stating: “There’s just too much of Alaska I haven’t seen, and our villages are so much nicer than these big fancy cities.”

Jennifer is located in Fairbanks, bringing our services locally to our northern region, and travels throughout the state.

Scott Stender

Scott brings more than 23 years business experience as a Senior Consultant. As an organizational & talent development specialist, Scott’s expertise in leadership, organizational management success, team dynamics, and corporate culture is without measure. He is also an expert at organizational gap analysis transformation, strategic human resource management, in addition to conflict resolution. If needed, Scott can develop plans that optimize strategic direction and agility for diverse and challenging workplaces as well as transitional change, transparency, goal alignment, and organizational performance.

Stender’s professional coaching style lends most closely to transformational leadership where he leverages his degree in Organizational Management. He draws on many years of experience to provide practical tools for his clients to grab a hold of while making necessary paradigm shifts that allow for deep rooted change. His ability to get to the heart of the matter, within minutes of his coaching sessions, has given him great success with the ability to quickly see results in the professionals he coaches.

As a former educator in the state, Scott has developed, modified and trained multiple workforce programs in both the public and private settings as well as at a national level. Contemporary training topics including: communications, documentation & retention, organizational strategy, and customer service. Retail organizations have relied on him to strengthen their sales teams through use of GAP analysis, LEAN, and Six Sigma principals. He is highly adept at working with organizations to get the most out of their leadership groups and the rising up and coming leaders. His passion is in developing others to fully realize their professional potential, regardless of their hierarchical level in the organization. Stender can connect with employees from interns to executives in a way that shows sincerity, demonstrates high competency, and delivers high returns toward more effective workgroups.
